A pair of drivers injured in a fiery head-on collision received assistance from two Good Samaritans, including an AEP employee.

One of the vehicles involved in the collision.

While on his way to work, Transmission Construction Representative Cody Snook encountered a crash on State Route 235 near Bluffton, Ohio. He stopped, exited his truck and rushed to check on the drivers.

“My first thought when I came across it was, ‘Is everybody okay?’” said Cody. “I’ve never been in this situation before, so all the thoughts in my head were focused on trying to stay calm.”

Another person at the scene had already assisted a woman out of one of the vehicles. The woman was lying on the ground beside the vehicle, which had caught fire inside. Cody and the other individual retrieved fire extinguishers from their trucks, but the flames could not be controlled.

Cody and the other Good Samaritan moved the woman away from the burning car to a safer location, while being careful to limit her movement because they were unsure of her injuries. Another person remained trapped inside the second vehicle as emergency personnel arrived on scene. They freed the trapped individual and provided medical treatment.

Cody said everything felt like it was happening in slow motion, but it all unfolded within minutes.

“Looking back, I’m extremely blessed that I could help in this critical moment,” he said. “Because if my family or I were in this situation, I would hope somebody would help.”
